Verses Pentecostals hate to hear, Part 2

About Suffering as Christians

Pentecostals believe that a believer should only have happy times, prosperity and riches, but the Bible says…

Romans 12:15 “rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep…”

In fact many of them read the first words of the verse “rejoice with those who rejoice” but they will deliberately avoid the last words “weep with those who weep”

Philippians 1:29 “for you have been granted the privilege of serving Christ, not only by believing in him, but also by suffering for him”

What many Pentecostals can not understand here and really hate so much is the last part of the verse “suffering for him’ you see many have been deceived that in Christ , there is no suffering.

Hebrews 10:34 .”..and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven."

Hebrews 11:37, 38 "They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented - of whom the world was not worthy."

John 16:33 ‘I have told you this so that you will have peace by being united to me… the world will make you suffer…”

This verse is a thorn in the flesh to many Pentecostals because suffering is in total contradiction to the gospel of prosperity they preach. On 5th January 2008, LTV aired the sermon of pastor Robert Kayanja entitled “He loads you with benefit” He told the followers how 2008 was going to be a year of being loaded and I bet anyone who would have mentioned this verse would have been expelled.

Mathew 10:16 “you will be betrayed, flogged …and dragged into courts”

If you preach such words in a Pentecostal church, you will be surprised to see empty seats in your church in a few months. Followers will cross over to Mr. Creflo Dollar’s church where prosperity is preached or in a church where healing is a major word.

2 Timothy 3:12 “Every one who wants to live a godly life in Christ will be persecuted” This verse is a taboo in Pentecostal churches “how can you talk about persecutions when there is happiness and being loaded” they will ask.

I Timothy 6:6-7 “Well, religion does make a person very rich, (delete the coma here) if he is satisfied with what he has. What did we being into the world? Nothing what can we take out of the world? Nothing?”

As false prophets

Many Pentecostals pastors have given prophecies which never came true, most of their prophecies concern happy lives, victory and better health, but the Bible says…

Mathew 7:15-16. “Be on guard against false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside but on the inside, they are really like wolves…you will know them by what they do…”

Mathew 7:22-23 “When judgment day comes, many will say to me Lord; in your name we spoke out God’s message, by your name we drove out many demons and performed many miracles! Then I will say to them, I never knew you. Get away from me you wicked people”

Mathew 24:24 “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear; they will perform great miracles and wonders in order to deceive even God’s chosen people if possible”

2 Corinthians 11:13 “Those men are not true apostles; they are false apostles, who lie about their work and disguise themselves to look like real apostles of Christ”.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 “Well, no wonder! Even Satan can disguise himself to look like an angel of light, so it is no great thing if his servants disguise as righteousness”

Acts 20:29 “I know that after I leave, fierce wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock”

2 Timothy 3:13 “And evil persons and impostors will keep on going from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves”.
